Home UAE Dubai Residents return to tower on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah after 2016 fire The Adriatic tower was left uninhabitable after the blaze due to damage to its electrical system by Robert Anderson October 9, 2018 Owners of residential units in the Adriatic building on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah have been cleared to return to the property after it was damaged in a fire nearly two years ago. The blaze, which occurred at around 11:40pm on December 12, 2016, resulted in no injuries but left the building uninhabitable after water damaged the main electrical system. The Oceana Owners Association Board also opted to replace the external cladding of the building to prevent similar incidents. Work is also now underway to replace the cladding on the six other towers in the Oceana complex. “While the incident that took place in December 2016 was very unfortunate, we were able to manage the fire effectively with support from DCD, and from the contractors during the subsequent restoration works,” said Asteco managing director John Stevens. Several recent blazes in Dubai have been linked to flammable external cladding materials used prior to the introduction of tighter rules. Authorities told building owners last year to make facades more resistant to flames.
