Revealed: McAfee Enterprise, FireEye merger named Trellix

McAfee Enterprise and FireEye have joined forces as Trellix.

Symphony Technology Group announced that the new entity will provide extended detection and response (XDR) services to businesses and government agencies, with an emphasis on data science and automation to accelerate technology innovation.

During an exclusive interview with Gulf Business, Adam Philpott, McAfee’s chief revenue officer, shared the company’s strategies and how they will address customers’ needs.

“Trellix is about living security. The term refers to the structure of a trellis, which is a sturdy and secure framework used to support the structured growth of climbing plants and trees. It’s about enabling organisations to grow their business while keeping them safe, secure, and protected,” said Philpott.

When asked how the new organisation will meet the customer needs, he explains: “Organisations use digitalisation to develop and grow, exposing themselves to cyberthreats in the process. Moreover, every new technology tool introduces new levels of complexity, resulting in an additional layer of security. To support this environment, companies must recruit talented people.”

“There are insufficient skills in the market. So, with the expertise they have, organisations can’t operationalise that degree of complexity, and even if they can, the expenses will surpass their capacity to manage the business. Finally, the threat landscape is evolving, giving rise to high-volume and sophisticated attacks.”

Keeping this in mind, Philpott says that Trellix introduced its XDR platform, which is designed to safeguard customers as they bring security to life with automation, machine learning, extensible architecture, and threat intelligence.

“Our XDR ecosystem is built to improve the efficiency of security operations by giving security analysts better insights and more control. This can save time for analysts, allowing them to respond quickly to threats.”

Focusing on the core pillars of the new entity, Philpott added: “The ability to learn and adapt is one of the core competencies of Trellix. We have capabilities to help businesses understand if they’re vulnerable and what steps they should take. A breach is not just about responding; it’s also about preparing ahead of an attack.”

Addressing the skill gap in the domain, he adds that the two companies are bringing together a vast pool of talent. “We have brought these two companies [McAfee Enterprise and FireEye] together to offer not just products, but talent capabilities as well. Our talent pool includes threat intelligence, threat research teams, and labs, and we will embed them into our clients’ needs.”

Trellix will educate clients, respond to their needs, and work closely with them to help solve their challenges, Philpott added.

Meanwhile, STG is expected to launch McAfee Enterprise’s Secure Service Edge (SSE) portfolio, as an independent entity later this quarter. The portfolio includes including Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), Secure Web Gateway (SWG) and Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA).
