Home Lifestyle Art & Culture Ritz-Carlton DIFC Hosts Major Arts Auction Pieces by Renoir, Picasso and Dali to go under the hammer as the region’s art market strengthens. by Dominic Ellis October 22, 2012 The Ritz-Carlton Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) will host an auction of major artistic works tomorrow night, in conjunction with Opera Gallery, which will be holding its first sale in the Middle East. Up to 140 works will be auctioned across a range of periods and disciplines, including works by Renoir (pictured), Picasso, Dali, Kapoor and Hirst. Mariam Thani Hodge, General Manager of Opera Gallery Dubai – which is also located in the financial centre – said the “strengthening” art market in the region makes it the ideal moment to introduce a new sale in the city’s calendar. “The quality of the pieces will reinforce the reputation and standing that the gallery has built up and hope that our buyers will appreciate this unique opportunity to widen their collections,” she said. The auction complements the centrally located hotel’s burgeoning arts collection, which now stands at 130 pieces. It is displaying 18 sculptures supplied by Opera Gallery across its lobby, two restaurants, lobby lounge and spa entrance. General Manager Lothar Quarz said alongside its proximity to the financial hub, the hotel is keen to cement itself as a ‘lifestyle’ centre. “Art is very much an essential part of our DNA. Our collection was chosen to appeal to guests from a diverse range of nationalities and cultures, while also supporting artists from the region,” he said. The hotel recently provided the F&B for the DIFC’s Art Nights and hosted the official after party in the No.5 Lounge & Bar. 0 Comments
