Saudi Arabia announces public holiday after historic FIFA World Cup win

Saudi Arabia stunned Argentina in a 2-1 win, to mark an unprecedented entry into the football tournament

A public holiday has been declared on November 23 across Saudi Arabia, in the wake of its historic win over Argentina in the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud directed to approve the proposal by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to announce a holiday, Saudi Press Agency reported.

Private and public sector employees as well as all students across the country will enjoy the day off. Held at the Lusail Stadium, Saudi Arabia stunned Argentina in a 2-1 win, to mark an unprecedented entry into the football tournament.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, took to Twitter to express his happiness.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, also congratulated the team.

Saudi Arabia will face Poland in their next tournament match on November 26, at the Education City Stadium in Doha.
