Eid Al Fitr 2023: Saudi Arabia announces 4-day holiday for private sector, non-profits

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has announced a four-day holiday for both private sector employees and non-profit organisations to celebrate Eid Al Fitr.

The announcement was made in a post on Twitter on Monday, April 10.

This holiday break marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, which commenced on March 23.

The holiday will start on Thursday, April 20, at the end of the workday.

Eid Al Fitr break for Kuwait’s public sector

Meanwhile, the Eid Al Fitr holiday at all ministries, and governmental bodies and institutions is set to begin from April 21 to 25 in Kuwait. The announcement was made by Kuwait’s cabinet on Monday.

In other news, the first day of Eid Al Fitr in most Islamic countries is expected to fall on Friday, April 21, according to UAE’s International Astronomical Centre. UAE residents can look forward to a bumper four-day weekend if the government confirms and agrees to the dates mentioned above.

Eid Al Fitr is usually celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar. However, the exact date varies depending on the sighting of the new moon.

The holy month of Ramadan began in the UAE on March 23. Islamic months last for 29 or 30 days, depending on when the moon is sighted. Ramadan will last for 29 days this year, according to astronomical calculations.

According to a Dubai Media Office report, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has directed the early disbursement of April salaries for federal government employees. The move is aimed at enabling employees and their families to enjoy the festive occasion.

As per the directive, federal government employees will receive their salaries starting from Monday, April 17.
