Saudi intercepts another Houthi drone headed towards Abha

The Saudi Royal Air Defense Forces (RAF) intercepted another another unmanned drone (UAV) launched by Houthis in the direction of Abha on Saturday.

The spokesperson of the Saudi-led coalition Colonel Turki Al Maliki said that the Houthis were “trying to target civilian facilities and civilian objects in desperate and repeated attempts.”

A missile attack targeting the Abha airport on Wednesday left 26 people injured. The Houthis have stepped up attacks against the kingdom in recent times.

The coalition said last week that it intercepted five drones that targeted Abha airport and Khamis Mushait.

In response, the coalition also said it had destroyed Houthi military assets on the outskirts of capital Sanaa – which is held by the Houthis.

Saudi Arabia has been targeted by hundreds of missile attacks since entering the Yemen civil war in 2015 to support ousted President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi against the Houthis.

“We affirm our legitimate right to take the appropriate deterrence measures against such hostile acts and in conformity with international humanitarian law and its customary rules,” said Al Maliki.
