Home GCC Saudi Arabia Saudi intercepts missile from Yemen The missile was heading towards the city of Khamis Mushait by Staff Writer September 24, 2017 The Saudi coalition in Yemen has confirmed the shooting down of a ballistic missile late Saturday by the Saudi Royal Air Force. Coalition spokesperson colonel Turki al-Malki said the launch from within Yemeni territory was discovered at 10:03pm. The missile was heading towards the city of Khamis Mushait and was intercepted and destroyed without any casualties, he added. Coalition forces then targeted the launch site. “The coalition asserts that the continuation of armed militias in targeting cities with ballistic missiles is the biggest evidence of the continued smuggling of weapons into Yemen, especially from the port of Hodeidah, which is under the control of the coupists,” according to the statement. Saudi Arabia has been targeted by dozens of ballistic missiles and projectiles from Yemen since it began operations to restore the internationally recognised government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to power in 2015. Another incident in June saw two Saudis injured when a projectile landed in the city of Najran.
