Saudi-led coalition shoots down six Houthi missiles targeting kingdom

The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen intercepted and shot down six missiles fired by the Houthis towards the city of Jizan on Sunday evening, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The ballistic missiles were fired from Sa’ada governorate in Yemen and targeted “civilian objects and civilians” in Jizan, the coalition spokesperson Colonel Turki Al-Maliki said.

The coalition also intercepted a Houthi drone targeting Khamis Mushait on Sunday morning and shot down Houthi drones aimed at Khamis Mushait and Jizan on Saturday.

Al-Maliki stressed that the Houthi attempts to target airports and civilians were in clear “violation of international humanitarian law”.

The drone and missile attacks also reflect “the size of Houthi losses in fighters and material amid continuing military operations deep in Sa’ada governorate”, he said.

Al Maliki added that the coalition will continue to carry out “strict and deterrent measures to neutralise and destroy these capabilities”.

Saudi Arabia has been targeted by hundreds of missile and drone attacks since entering the Yemen civil war in 2015 to support ousted President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi against the Houthis.

The attacks against the kingdom have increased in recent months.

Earlier this month, Saudi forces intercepted drones heading towards “civilian airports” in the kingdom.
