Saudi to use smart helmets to monitor people’s body temperatures
The helmets can detect body temperatures when a person is up to five metres away and they can examine up to 200 people per minute
Officials in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province are using smart helmets that can automatically scan people’s body temperatures via thermal radiation.
Officials wearing the helmets are being deployed in public spaces to identify people with elevated body temperatures.
The Eastern Province municipality has implemented the use of the helmets as part of measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in public places and shopping malls.

The helmets can detect body temperatures when a person is up to five metres away and they can examine up to 200 people per minute, Eastern Province Municipality said.
If a person is found to have a high temperature, health authorities will be informed.
Dubai Police have also deployed similar smart helmets to scan for the coronavirus in public transport facilities.

Last month, Abu Dhabi Police also started using smart helmets to monitor people’s temperatures in large crowds.
The sensors on the helmets will detect body temperature and also store facial recognition details to help authorities take action if necessary.
