Flynas will operate two weekly flights between Riyadh and AlUla on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The new route will be serviced by flynas’ A320 neo aircraft, the latest addition to the carrier’s fleet, bearing the design of ‘Year of Arabic Calligraphy’. “Flynas has been keen on offering the best service for travellers interested in visiting this unique historical city, in accordance with the airline’s strategy that aims to take travel in the kingdom to the next level, in both services and cost,” said flynas CEO Bander Almohanna. Phillip Jones, chief destination management and marketing officer at the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) added: “We welcome flynas to AlUla and look forward to more domestic flights with flynas from other destinations in the kingdom. “AlUla is a place like no other in the world and we encourage residents of the kingdom to experience their unique culture and heritage now while they have the destination to themselves.” Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) approved the arrival of international flights at AlUla’s Prince Abdul Majeed bin Abdulaziz Airport. The airport’s annual capacity has increased from 100,000 passengers to 400,000 and its area has increased to 2.4 million square metres, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported. The airport is now among the 10 biggest airports in Saudi Arabia and can accommodate up to 15 commercial aircraft at any one time. “With the recent renaming of AlUla International Airport, we are preparing to open up to international tourism and cement AlUla’s position as a globally significant UNESCO destination,” added Jones.
