Sharjah announces free public parking from March 23

The municipality has urged drivers to comply with parking rules and regulations

Sharjah Municipality took to social media on Monday to announce free public parking across all areas of the emirate.

The directive, effective Monday, March 23 onwards, is primarily to safeguard public health and to ensure their safety, a statement said.

The municipality has urged drivers to comply with parking injunctions.

Sharjah City Municipality announced that it has decided to exempt the puplic parking users from parking fees, starting from 23 March 2020 until further notice. This decision comes in line with the precautionary measures to preserve public health and safety. The municipality calls upon motorists to adhere to the parking rules and regulations, as the parking inpectors will monitor any misuse of parking spaces such as double parking, preventing other using the parking spaces, hence causing negative impact on traffic. #shjmunicipality @sharjahnews @sharjah24 @sharjahmedia @shj_barq

Concerned authorities will monitor any misuse of public parking slots, the ministry added.

This directive is the latest in a series of initiatives announced by the UAE government to try and halt the spread of the Covid-19 contagion, as well as protect the health of its residents and citizens.

People in the country were encouraged to stay at home unless absolutely necessary to get essential supplies as the country converges its efforts to contain the virus.

The government also announced the closure of all its malls within the next 48 hours while all inbound and outbound passenger flights and the transit of airline passengers are to be suspended for two weeks.
