Sharjah has announced that it will offer motorists up to 50 per cent off on their traffic fines.

All fine settlements made prior to January 31, 2020 are eligible for the discount. Motorists will have their black points cancelled too.

However, the discount and black points cancellation will only apply on traffic fines incurred before October 22.

The announcement followed a prior approval from the Sharjah Executive Council, confirmed commander in chief of Sharjah Police, major-general Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi.

Sharjah Police will facilitate fine settlements in all of its stations and through supplementary methods, he said.

“This is a move that is expected to encourage motorists to clear their debts,” he stated.

Dubai launched a similar initiative earlier this year aligned with UAE’s Year of Tolerance to reward road behaviour. Motorists that accrued no traffic violations in a span of 12 months could have their entire previous violations expunged.
