The Anti-Narcotics Department of the Sharjah Police (SP) arrested a gang of nine persons, who were attempting to sell more than a million “Zinex” tablets, worth over Dhs15m, in the country.

Lieutenant Colonel Majid Al Asam, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department of SP, confirmed that the police had received information of the gang who had brought in huge quantities of narcotic pills to distribute to a group of promoters in less than 24 hours.

A security team was formed to follow-up on the case, which were able to identify the gang members and track their movements, in less than 12 hours.

The police worked in concert with various anti-drug entities in the UAE, which led to the arrest of the gang and seizure of the contraband, official news agency WAM reported.

The gang confessed that they had planned to sell the pills and narcotic drugs. They were referred to the Public Prosecution in Sharjah.

Lt. Col. Al Asam stressed that the police will spare no effort to enhance the security of citizens, residents and visitors in the country.

Last month, Dubai Police thwarted a plot by an international criminal gang to sell 40kgs of crystal drug in the UAE.
