Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, has issued a resolution forming the committee on Thursday. The committee is chaired by the commissioner-general for Infrastructure, Urban Planning and Well-Being Track. Other members of the committee include the managing director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA); the director-general of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism; the director-general of Dubai Municipality; the director-general of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority’ the CEO of Engineering Office; as well as representatives from the General Secretariat of The Executive Council of Dubai and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The committee is responsible for drafting the general policy of the Hatta Master Development Plan and overseeing the implementation of projects to develop Hatta. It is also tasked with forming sub-committees and working teams and proposing and reviewing regulations that will help it meet its objectives. Further, it will approve Hatta’s promotional and marketing plan locally and internationally. All entities in charge of the development of Hatta are required to collaborate with the committee. Read: Dubai Holding to open region’s first luxury caravan park in Hatta In October last year, the Hatta Master Development Plan was approved by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The Master Plan covers four key strategic pillars: wellbeing, tourism, sports and activities, and sustainability. It maps out the development of the area over the next two decades. The key objectives of the plan include conserving the heritage and natural environment of the area, encouraging mountain tourism and sport, and transforming Hatta into a year-round tourist destination. Read also: Sheikh Mohammed launches DEWA’s space programme and Hatta tourism projects In a boon to private businesses, the plan specifically focuses on supporting young entrepreneurs who own small- and medium-sized businesses, to enable them to implement projects and creative ideas to advance sustainable economic development projects within the area. Hatta residents will allowed to build 200 holiday homes to support domestic tourism in district. DEWA said earlier this month that the work at the Hatta hydroelectric power plant has reached 35 per cent completion by the end of December 2021.
