Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has been elected as the new President of the UAE.
Sheikh Mohamed was unanimously elected by the Federal Supreme Council, which held a meeting on May 14 at the Al Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi, chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs stated that under Article 51 of the Constitution, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed was elected President to succeed the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

For his part, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed expressed his appreciation for the trust placed in him by his brothers, official news agency WAM reported.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, tweeted: “My brother, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, we knew him as a leader, and we pledged allegiance to him as President.”
