Home GCC UAE Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed calls families of Covid-19 frontline workers Sheikh Mohamed stressed that the people of the UAE cherish their heroes by Staff writer December 1, 2020 Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has personally called the families of the frontline workers who passed away while performing their duty to contain the coronavirus pandemic. During the phone conversations, Sheikh Mohamed expressed thanks and appreciation to the great role the workers played and the dedication they demonstrated, official news agency WAM reported. He said the Emirati community will never forget their sacrifices. “We are very proud of our heroes who lived with us and were part of our social fabric. They worked hard to protect our health and to ensure our safety during difficult times,” he said. Sheikh Mohamed added that the people of the UAE cherish their heroes, Emiratis and residents alike, look up to them as role models and value their sacrifices. “The UAE will never forget the sacrifices made by Dr. Sudhir Rambhau Washimkar, nurse Lezly Orione, Anvar Ali, Ahmed Al Sebaei, Dr. Bassam Bernieh and other heroes who sacrificed their lives to protect our loved ones. The families of the heroes of humanity are part of our society and the UAE will always support and stand by them,” Sheikh Mohamed added. The families of the workers also expressed their appreciation to Sheikh Mohamed for the calls and his keenness to personally attend to their needs, WAM reported. Several initiatives have been announced in the UAE to support and acknowledge frontline healthcare workers in the country. In September, the UAE has announced a new programme – Hayyakum – that will enable children of healthcare workers across the country to access full educational scholarships to study at public schools. The scholarship, that would be available to students from this academic year itself and last until their graduation from high school, will cover the cost of tuition, laptops and transportation for the students.
