Sheikh Mohammed inspects Emirates Engineering Centre, A380 cabin retrofit programme

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, visited the Emirates Engineering Centre on Wednesday. He was accompanied by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE.

Sheikh Mohammed was given a tour of the national carrier’s ongoing cabin refurbishment programme. He reviewed an A380 being prepared for its retrofit, and a refurbished cabin that has been fitted with Emirates Airlines’ latest cabin interiors.

He also met with a team of engineers and technicians working on the retrofit programme.

A380 retrofit at Emirates Engineering Centre

Emirates currently employs over 5,500 people in various roles in its engineering division with UAE nationals compirsing up to 60 per cent of the workforce while female talent comprises nearly 20 per cent.

The 400,000-square-metre engineering centre is spread over 12 hangars and is one of the largest such facilities in the Middle East.

Over two years, the programme aims to retrofit the interiors of 120 aircraft. Since the programme began in November 2022, the Emirates Engineering Centre has completely refurbished 14 A380s, enabling the airline to offer its Premium Economy product and latest cabin experiences on popular routes such as London Heathrow, New York JFK, San Francisco, Houston, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Christchurch and Singapore.

Sheikh Mohammed also visited Terminal 2 at Dubai International Airport, which apart from being the operational base of Flydubai also services 18 other airlines.
