Sole DXB 2020 event cancelled, no new date announced

Sole DXB 2020 has been officially cancelled, the organisers confirmed via an Instagram post on Sunday.

“We’re disappointed to be in this position, but we aren’t confident we can deliver the experience you deserve with the health and safety standards we expect,” read the post.

There has been no alternate date announced for the festival. “While the situation continues to improve on the ground in Dubai, the festival is a collective effort by our community around the world and we’re ready to wait till they can be a part of it, too. We don’t have a new date, but once we do, you’ll be the first to know.”

The eight edition of the festival was held in December 2019 in Dubai Design District (d3) and attracted a crowd of over 36,000 people from more than 60 countries.

The three-day event celebrates film, fashion, art, sport and music, street style and pop culture.

“Outside of being a space for self-expression we know that the festival has been a platform for new ideas and creative aspirations. While this window closes temporarily, we are working on opening a door, and for those that have the headspace and opportunity to create, we will continue to work with you,” added the post.

Among the big names who participated in last year’s edition were The Wu-Tang Clan and Kerby Jean-Raymond, the founder of New York-based luxury and ready-to-wear brand Pyer Moss too, who discussed  topics relating to embracing sub-cultures, championing inclusivity and celebrating uniqueness at the event.

Recently, the Dubai government issued a new set of guidelines to organisers of live events, exhibitions, conferences and concerts in Dubai in a bid to ensure that they take the necessary precautions as they prepare to plan upcoming events in the emirate.
