Home Transport Aviation Strike Paralyses Lufthansa Network Middle East travellers should brace themselves for cancellations and delays from today’s strike by the public services trade union ver.di by Dominic Ellis April 22, 2013 Lufthansa’s operations will virtually grind to a halt on Monday as a result of a strike by the public services trade union ver.di. Nearly all Lufthansa flights within Germany and Europe will be cancelled and only a select few short-haul flights will operate, such as in Berlin, where strike actions should end by 1430 CET. In all, only 20 of the 1,650 planned Lufthansa short-haul flights will operate today due to the limited flight schedule. In addition to the airline’s bases at Frankfurt and Munich, the Group’s locations in Hamburg, Norderstedt, Nuremberg, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Stuttgart and Hanover will be affected by the strike action. However, flights operated by Germanwings will not be affected. Lufthansa’s chief negotiator, Stefan Lauer, said the move by the union over pay claims was “a completely excessive measure that can in no way be justified in view of the current state of negotiations”. Middle East travellers should brace themselves for flight cancellations and delays. LH639 (Dubai-Munich), LH585 (Cairo-Frankfurt), LH1775 (Istanbul-Munich) are among the numerable services cancelled today. Lufthansa recommends all passengers to check the status of their flight in advance by visiting lufthansa.com under the link “strike actions on 22 April 2013” or under the tab “My Bookings.” 0 Comments
