Taj Dubai Set For April Launch

Taj Dubai, the Indian luxury operator’s second Dubai hotel – located in the Downtown district close to Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall – is targeting a mid-April official launch.

Taj hotels are invariably strong on design and LW Design Group has pulled out all the stops with this 296-room property, which takes a bold-and-subtle approach to art and artefacts.

The lobby, which has three seated check in counters, features a Swarovski chandelier above the floral display, gold peacocks adorn the mezzanine Byzantium Lounge and if you’re lucky enough to stay in the 29th floor grand luxury suite, look out for the peacock feather-coated chairs.

In location and tone, it is markedly different to the Taj Palace Hotel – right from the start, when you enter a compact gold-and-white, mirror-columned lobby, in contrast to the Deira hotel’s more linear layout.

The Tesoro Peruvian-come-all-day-dining, which features more elaborate lattice designs and large glass windows – there is a lightness to the whole hotel, and corridors – lead into a large terrace, which itself overlooks a waterfall feature and conventional pool on the other side. Leisure facilities also include the Jiva Spa and fitness centre.

The Eloquent Elephant gastropub is another design showcase – down to the toilets – and the Bombay Brasserie looks set to be a popular group dining spot. Another venue, which has direct street access and managed independently, will house a Michelin-star chef and open at a later date.

There are 10 room types to choose from (36 suites), and guests in the 24th-35th floors have access to the 24th floor Club lounge and butler services.

One of the most significant service features is the Chambers lounge which adjoins the Club lounge – it’s the first Chambers outside India. This is Taj’s most exclusive offering for its top-tier guests and admission is by invitation only.

Wifi is free for all in-house guests and free for visitors for three hours.

Introductory rates start from Dhs900, before taxes, and corporate rates can be negotiated.
