1. Fireworks extravaganza on the Palm

Dubai is attempting to hold a record-breaking display of fireworks on Palm Jumeirah to ring in the New Year, and organisers promise that it will be a night to remember.

The six-minute display will cover about 100 kilometres of seafront and will feature over 400,000 fireworks. The spectacular show will be visible from several vantage points, both inside and outside the Palm.

2. Drumming in the desert

Every year, Dubai Drums welcomes the New Year in the desert with a night of drumming, singing, dancing and good food. This year, the event will take place at the Gulf Ventures Desert Camp in Al Awir off the Hatta Road.

The camp will be decorated new-year style with a bonfire and organisers promise that the bar is stocked at reasonable prices.

Price: Dhs520 for adults and Dhs250 for kids (6-13 years). Price includes community drumming, dinner, camel rides, sand boarding, shisha, belly dancer. Soft drinks and alchoholic beverages not included.

Timings: 8.00pm onwards

3. The Greatest Show on earth by Cirque Le Soir

British club Cirque Le Soir vouches to present the greatest show on earth this New Year’s Eve. The Victorian circus will thrill spectators with strong men, bearded ladies, lion tamers and mermaids in their water tank. This circus is full of “daring acts and extraordinary wonders no man has ever laid eyes on,” say organisers.

Cirque Le Soir is located at the Fairmont hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Price: Dhs790 for ladies and Dhs990 for men

Tables start from Dhs1500 per person inclusive of alcohol.

4. Great Gatsby at the Cavalli Club

Rewind to the style and glamour of the 1920s as Cavalli Club presents its Gatsby New Years Eve party. Dress in your finest and dine and dance to vintage music as the gong strikes 12 on December 31, 2013. The club will also live-stream fireworks from Burj Khalifa.

Price: Dhs1650 (With a four-course menu and house beverages)

Open Bar: Dhs950 for ladies and Dhs1150 for men

Timings: 8.00pm to 3.00am

5. Sandance at Atlantis The Palm

Sandance is a staple for most of Dubai’s partygoers and the music festival features a fantastic line-up for NYE 2013. Opening the New’s Year’s Eve event is UK’s best selling female artist Emeli Sande, who is followed by DJs Axwell, Paul Oakenfold and Pete Tong, and “I lLove It” pop star Charli XCX.

Revellers at Sandance will also enjoy an up-close view of Dubai’s record-breaking fireworks display. Note that entry is only possible via buses from American University of Dubai, with the last bus leaving at 9.00pm.

Timings: 3.00pm to 3.00am.

6. 007 themed NYE party at The Movenpick

If Bond’s your man, then head to the Movenpick Hotel Ibn Battuta Gate this NYE. The hotel is hosting a James Bond theme night with the grand lobby decked out in spy chic. Al Bahou – the grand hall which boasts 88 atmospheric lanterns suspended from a 90-metre high ceiling, will present an international buffet while playing Bond classics on big screens.

7. Gold Dust Party With Fireworks @ The Address, Downtown Dubai

Although not record-breaking, the fireworks display at the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, will be breathtaking this NYE, say organisers. Capture an incredible view of the extravaganza from the terrace of the neighbouring Address Hotel Downtown Dubai.

The hotel will hold its annual elite Gold Dust party at the Symphony Ballroom, where guests can savour a fabulous spread.

Price: Dhs1,300 including unlimited selected house beverages and bubbly, Dhs1,650 for VIP table seating

8. New Orleans Mardi Gras at Cravin’ Cajun

Embrace the New Orleans carnival spirit at the hot new restaurant Cravin’ Cajun located at the Novotel hotel in Al Barsha. On offer is an authentic four-course set menu straight from Louisiana, unlimited wine paring and live jazz and blues from the Ptah Brown Trio.

9. Retro night @ QUBE Sports Bar

If you’re tired of partying to the hot new hits, welcome 2014 with a classic Rock ‘n’ Roll extravaganza at the QUBE Sports Bar. Located at the Track in Meydan Golf, the bar is ringing in the New Year with a live rock ‘n’ roll band, a buffet dinner and a complimentary Champagne toast at midnight.
