Tourist numbers up 1.6% in Abu Dhabi and Dubai

The number of tourists coming from Russia rose by 64.8 per cent, with German visitor numbers rising 14.7 per cent

The number of tourists visiting Abu Dhabi and Dubai increased by 1.6 per cent in the first eight months of 2018 compared to 2017, with room occupancy up by 4.2 per cent.

General occupancy rates also increased by 0.7 per cent, according to a joint statement by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) Dubai, and the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism.

Average daily room prices decreased by 5.3 per cent in Abu Dhabi, and 5.5 per cent in Dubai, on the back of special promotions and discounts, added the statement issued by state media agency WAM.

Figures related to international visitors were also released, with the number of tourists coming from Russia rising by 64.8 per cent, supported by the loosening of entry visa requirements.

The number of tourists from China and Germany increased by 11.6 per cent and 14.7 per cent respectively in the same time period, while the number of tourists from India increased by 2.3 per cent.

However, the number of tourists from the UK, Egypt, Pakistan and the Philippines decreased.

Foreign tourists to Dubai rose by 6.7 per cent from January to August 2018, with hotel occupancy increased by 7.3 per cent and length of stay rising by 1 per cent. In Abu Dhabi the number of international visitors increased by 6.7 per cent, with hotel occupancy up 6.7 per cent, and length of stay up by 1 per cent.
