The UAE has allowed media organisations across the country to once again distribute magazines and newspapers in all public spaces including hotels, cafés and restaurants.

In March 2020, the UAE National Media Council (NMC) had ordered the temporary suspension of distribution of newspapers, magazines and marketing material in certain public places as precautionary measure to stem the spread of Covid-19.

Printed materials, including advertisements, were banned from being distributed in restaurants, hotels, health centres and clinics and waiting halls, where residents were likely to use them repeatedly.

According to local media reports, the latest directive reversing the March 2020 decision was reached after the Media Regulatory Office at the Ministry of Culture and Youth held a meeting with media companies earlier this week.

The NMC added that newspapers play a crucial role in publishing reports and carrying discussions on issues of national importance across multiple platforms, including its digital ones.
