Home GCC UAE UAE announces Hijri New Year date Hijri New Year will be a holiday for public and private sector workers in the country by Aarti Nagraj August 30, 2019 The UAE has announced that the first day of Muharram, marking the Hijri New Year, will fall on Saturday, August 31. The announcement was made by the Federal Authority For Government Human Resources (FAHR) on Friday night. “In light of the announcement of the relevant authorities in the government that Saturday is the first day of Muharram 1441 H, the Hijri New Year’s holiday will be observed on Saturday, August 31. The RTA has also announced that public parking will be free on the holiday – corresponding to Saturday.
