The UAE government has announced shorter working hours for the private sector during the month of Ramadan, state news agency WAM reported.

According to a circular issued by Saqr bin Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, Minister of Labour, working hours will be reduced by two hours during the holy month with no reduction in salaries for private sector workers.

The government also revealed the work timings of public sector employees earlier today.

Federal government and ministry employees will work from 9am to 2pm, according to a resolution issued on Sunday by Humaid Mohammad Al Qutami, Minister of Education and chairman of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources.

The first day of the Muslim holy month will be on June 29, it was officially announced by the Sharjah Planetarium at the Department of Culture and Information last week.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, when Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.

Fasting this year is expected to last for 15 hours and 15 minutes at the start of Ramadan and reach 14 hours and 55 minutes by the end of the month.

The Sharjah Planetarium also said that it expects July 28 to be the first day of Eid Al Fitr.
