The son of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed has been appointed as the new chairman of the United Arab Emirates State Security Department, it was announced on Monday.

UAE President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued a federal decree appointing Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed to the role, official news agency WAM reported.

He will serve at the level of a minister, the report said.

The decree will be effective from the date of issuance and will be published in the official gazette, WAM added.

The appointment comes after the UAE’s new cabinet ministers were sworn in on Sunday, following a massive restructuring of the government last week.

In total, eight new ministers have been appointed to the cabinet including five women. The average age of the newly appointed ministers is 38 years.

Announcing the changes on Twitter, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said: “The new government will comprise of less ministries but more ministers handling national, strategic and dynamic files.

“In the new structure of federal government, we will have a roadmap for outsourcing most of the government services to the private sector.”
