Work will resume for both the private and public sectors on May 26, officials said. The holiday for the public sector and federal agencies was declared on Tuesday evening through a circular issued by Humaid Al Qatami, Minister of Education and chairman of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources. He added that the Isra Wal Miraj public holiday has been moved from Monday, May 26 to Sunday, May 25. Qattami explained that, as per the federal law, public holidays in the UAE could be moved to the beginning or end of the week if they fall between two working days. A circular issued by the UAE’s Labour Minister, Saqr Ghobash, confirmed that May 25 will be an official paid holiday for all private sector employees. Isra Wal Miraj marks the spiritual night journey undertaken by Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Jerusalem, after which he was taken to heaven.
