The UAE’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) has launched a new initiative to increase road safety awareness through its ‘Accident-Free Day’ campaign, reported state news agency WAM. The Federal Traffic Council’s campaign asks drivers to take part in the MoI’s accident-free day initiative — which will be marked on August 28, when thousands of students return to school after the two-month summer break. Take part in the MoI-led Federal Traffic Council’s positive initiative and you will have four black traffic points stuck off your record. The campaign is aimed at rewarding individuals who take part in the initiative. To claim the deduction, you first need to head to the website and sign the pledge for the initiative. You can find this link on various social media accounts, the websites of the Ministry of Interior, and the general commands of the police. He said, “the campaign is designed to bolster participation and road safety awareness and it falls under the umbrella of the nation’s traffic sector initiatives. Participants who maintain this commitment will receive a reward of 4 black traffic points deducted from their record.” The “Accident-Free Day” initiative aims to build on existing efforts by various traffic monitoring entities in the nation. What are black points or negative traffic fines? Black points, or negative traffic points, are a penalty issued against serious traffic violations such as accidents. Violations like speeding or incorrect parking draw a monetary penalty however, violations such as causing accidents can lead to black points being imposed in addition to monetary fines. These black points or unpayable fines are issued against a UAE driver’s licence. A motorist can get anywhere between four to a maximum of 24 black points.
