UAE, Israel sign MoU on mutual recognition of Covid-19 vaccination certificates

The UAE and Israel have signed an MoU to facilitate the mutual recognition of vaccination certificates issued by the health authorities of each other’s countries.

Based on this agreement, authorities in both countries will be able to develop specific procedures ensuring the unrestricted movement of vaccinated individuals as part of the efforts made by respective governments to facilitate the safe movement of travelers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The MoU was signed virtually by Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, UAE’s Minister of Health and Prevention, and Nitzan Horowitz, Minister of Health of Israel.

Al Owais said that the MoU comes as part of the cooperation agreement concluded by the two countries to enhance coordination in large-scale health initiatives, unify efforts and exchange knowledge and expertise with regards to confronting global pandemics by employing digital health, AI, and innovation and utilising milestones in personalised medicine while promoting healthcare in accordance with best international practices, according to WAM.

On Sunday, the UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) said that that 13,476 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine were administered over the preceding 24 hours.

The total number of doses provided to date in the country stands at 20,900,490, with vaccine distribution rate of 211.32 doses per 100 people. The UAE has approved Pfizer-BioNTech, Sinopharm, Oxford-AstraZeneca, Sputnik Vfor use within the country.

According to data shared by MoHAP, 96.94 per cent of the eligible population in the country have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, whereas 86.9 per cent of the those eleigible have been fully vaccinated.

According to data shared by Reuters, Israel has administered at least 15,827,049 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, at an average of of 14,378 doses daily as of last week. Israel currently offers the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to its residents.
