UAE leaders pardon more than 1,600 prisoners before Eid Al Adha

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the release of 505 prisoners from Dubai’s correctional and punitive establishments ahead of Eid Al Adha.

The inmates were selected based on good conduct and behaviour.

The public prosecution will immediately commence the legal procedures to implement the order.

Each year, UAE leaders pardon prisoners during Ramadan, Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, as a gesture of generosity towards their rehabilitation.

The pardon is an attempt to give them an opportunity to start a new life, and alleviate their families’ hardships.

On July 5, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the release of 737 prisoners, ahead of Eid Al Adha.

In other emirates, Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has ordered the release of 194 prisoners.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, has ordered the release of 146 prisoners.

Additionally, Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, has ordered the release of 93 prisoners.

The country’s private sector and federal government employees will be on holiday from Friday, July 8 until Monday, July 11 to mark Eid Al Adha. The first day of the occasion will fall on Saturday, July 9.

Meanwhile, Covid safety protocols for Eid Al Adha were announced in the country. As per the regulations, the duration of Eid prayers will be limited to 20 minutes, during which worshippers must wear masks and maintain a distance of at least one metre. The use of personal or disposable prayer mats has been also advised.
