Sharjah-based low-cost carrier Air Arabia has announced the resumption of direct flights to the Egyptian city of Luxor, it announced on Wednesday.

Twice weekly flights, operated using an Airbus A320 aircraft, will resume from February 23, 2021.

Flight G9 641, operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays, will depart from Sharjah at 10pm and land in Luxor at 11.50pm.

The return flight G9 642, operating on Wednesdays and Sunday, will leave from Luxor at 12.30am (midnight) and arrive in Sharjah at 5.30am.

Passengers can book tickets on Air Arabia’s website, by calling the call centre or through travel agencies.

The airline has been gradually restarting routes across its network even as the countries open up following closure due to the pandemic.

Last week, the airline reported net profit of Dhs20 million for the fourth quarter of 2020, a dip of 90 per cent year-on-year, due to the impact of the Covid-19 crisis.

For the full year ending December 31, 2020, the airline announced a net loss of Dhs192m.

“Strong measures remain in place to preserve liquidity and support business continuity,” it said.

Air Arabia also added 14 new routes to its global network in 2020 from its operating hubs in the UAE, Morocco and Egypt.

Meanwhile, it has adjusted operations to include safety measures. In October, the carrier announced free global Covid-19 cover for all passengers travelling on its flights departing from Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
