Home GCC UAE UAE pledges $15m to UN Women Money will be used to support UN Women’s work in promoting gender around the world by Ben Mack September 29, 2019 The UAE is giving millions of dollars to support women’s rights. The UAE has announced it will be giving at least $15m to UN Women during the next three years. The new pledge by the UAE to support the work of UN Women was announced on the sidelines of the 74th UN General Assembly in New York City. According to Emirates News Agency (WAM), the UAE has supported UN Women since its establishment, and has provided approximately $26m to the core budget of UN Women to support operations and efforts to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment around the world, including through the UN Women liaison office in Abu Dhabi. The UAE’s support for UN Women comes as women are set to make big strides in local elections. About 500 Emiratis have registered for this year’s Federal National Council (FNC) elections.
