UAE President pardons 737 prisoners ahead of Eid Al Adha

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 737 prisoners, ahead of Eid Al Adha.

The pardoned prisoners had been sentenced to jail terms for a variety of offences, official news agency WAM reported.

The President’s annual pardon ahead of Eid Al Adha aims to enhance family cohesion and grants the released prisoners an opportunity to restart their lives. Sheikh Mohamed also pledged to settle the financial obligations of the released prisoners.

The country’s private sector and federal government employees will be on holiday from Friday, July 8 until Monday, July 11 to mark Eid Al Adha. The first day of the occasion will fall on Saturday, July 9.

Meanwhile, Covid safety protocols for Eid Al Adha were announced in the country. As per the regulations, the duration of Eid prayers will be limited to 20 minutes, during which worshippers must wear masks and maintain a distance of at least one metre. The use of personal or disposable prayer mats has been also advised.
