UAE telecoms operator du partners with Amazon Prime Video

UAE telecoms operator du has signed a distribution agreement with streaming service Amazon Prime Video to offer its customers, it announced on Thursday.

The announcement was made during the Gitex Technology event in Dubai.

Amazon Prime Video launched in the UAE in December 2016, as part of a global expansion which saw the service begin operations in more than 200 territories.

The service is currently available for an introductory price of $2.99 a month for six months after which it will cost $5.99 a month.

Some of Amazon Prime Video’s originals include Grand Tour, The Man in the High Castle, The Tick and Fleabag, among others.

Du, part of the Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC), did not clarify the range of the partnership, but said that Prime Video will be part of a “value-added consumer strategy which entails global partnerships to meet rising demand for high-quality content.”

Fahad Al Hassawi, deputy CEO, EITC – Telco Services, said: “Our relationship with Prime Video enables us to further strengthen our offering, not just for TV viewers, but also for on-the-go customers whose entertainment needs span multiple screens.”

The UAE already has several subscription streaming platforms including Netflix, icflix and OSN Play.
