The UAE has extended the suspension on incoming passengers from India until July 6, 2021, according to an Indian carrier.

“[The] General Authority of Civil Aviation, UAE, has suspended all inbound passenger movement to the UAE from India, (excluding UAE nationals), till July 6, 2021,” Air India Express said in a statement on Twitter.

The carrier further advised passengers, who were booked to fly with it during this period, to reschedule their tickets for travel at a future date.

Dubai airline Emirates confirmed on May 30 that flights from India to the UAE were to remain suspended until June 30. The airline had stopped all passenger flights from India on April 24 due to the deadly second wave of Covid-19 in the country.

India’s new infections dipped to less than 100,000 cases for the first time since April 6. The country with the second-largest number of cases reported 86,498 new infections on Tuesday, lower than the peak in September last year during the first wave of Covid-19.

The total tally rose to 29 million while Covid-related deaths rose by 2,123 to 351,309, according to latest data from India’s health ministry. The second wave, which saw a record 414,188 new cases on May 7, has been tapering sharply.
