UAE to open new field hospital in Sharjah for Covid-19 emergencies – reports

A new field hospital is being built in Sharjah to deal with Covid-19 emergencies, the emirate’s police chief Major General Saif Al Ziri Al Shamsi has reportedly told local media.

The field hospital will be set up in Sharjah’s Al Zahia area. “Work on the hospital will start tomorrow, in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap). It is expected to be completed in one month,” the commander-in-chief of Sharjah Police and head of the local emergency crisis and disaster team in Sharjah said on Wednesday.

“We will be ready if required to receive infected cases that need intensive care in a field hospital in the emirate.”

Urging all members of the community to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, he added that from next week, the vaccines will be available across police stations within the emirate too.

The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention said on Wednesday that that 86,770 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine were given in the past 24 hours. The total number of doses administered therefore stands at 2,764,445 with a vaccine distribution rate of 27.95 doses per 100 people.

The country has until now approved three vaccines for use: Pfizer-BioNTech, Sputnik V and Sinopham.

The UAE posted a new record of Covid-19 cases, with 3,939 new infections recorded for Wednesday, January 27. It was a marked increase from the 3,601 infections reported the day before.
