UAE to send $100m in humanitarian aid to Ukraine

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the provision of additional humanitarian relief aid worth $100m to Ukrainian civilians affected by the crisis.

Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, underscored that the additional aid stems from the belief of the UAE President’s in the importance of solidarity in times of war and conflict, and the UAE’s efforts to mitigate the humanitarian impact of the Ukraine crisis.

The UAE has provided similar relief aid in recent months to Ukrainian civilians affected by the crisis, in addition to sending planes carrying aid to Ukrainian refugees in Poland and Moldova, she added.

In March, the Gulf state had sent an aircraft carrying 30 metric tonnes of emergency health aid and medical supplies, as part of its emergency relief efforts to assist Ukrainian civilians.

In February, the UAE also announced $5m in humanitarian assistance to benefit civilians impacted by the situation in Ukraine.

Sheikh Mohamed held a phone call with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, earlier this week.

During the call, the two sides discussed cooperation between the two countries, in addition to developments in the Ukraine crisis and the importance of reducing tensions through diplomatic solutions.

Sheikh Mohamed stressed that the UAE will exert all possible efforts to prevent the worsening of the crisis, official news agency WAM reported.

Both leaders congratulated each other on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the UAE and Ukraine, expressing their wishes for the two countries’ relations to continue prospering to serve mutual interests.
