Home Industry Politics UAE, United Nations collaborate to advance female-centric projects The UAE has pledged $800,000 to help fund DPPA projects by Iman Hussain May 20, 2021 The United Arab Emirates and United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) have announced a partnership to support the implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda. The agenda works to enhance the voices of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in UN-assisted peace processes, a statement said. The UAE has pledged a two-year contribution of $800,000 to help fund DPPA projects. The money will help increase women’s participation in peace and post-conflict processes primarily through decision-making and mediation roles. Such contributions allow us to make a difference in peace and mediation efforts globally.” The UAE has had a long-standing mission to put women at the front of all peace and security efforts, including conflict prevention and resolution, peacekeeping and peacebuilding, the statement added. Lana Nusseibeh, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the UAE to the UN, added: “Building on the UAE’s long-standing commitment to the WPS agenda, our partnership with DPPA helps to ensure that peace processes will deliver long-term security and economic benefits by including and empowering women.
