Government sector employees in the UAE will work for five hours during Ramadan, the Federal authority for Government Human Resources has announced.

The official working hours for employees will be from 9am to 2pm, according to state news agency WAM.

This is similar to other public sector hours announced in other Gulf countries.

The UAE also announced reduced hours for school pupils yesterday.

Ramadan is widely expected to begin on Saturday, May 27 but the exact date will be announced by the UAE’s moon sighting committee.

Bahraini astronomer Waheeb Al Nasser said earlier this month that Ramadan would last for 29 days this year, ending on Saturday, June 24. Eid Al-Fitr is expected to fall on Sunday, June 25.
