UAE’s Etihad extends global Covid-19 insurance until September 30, 2021

Abu Dhabi carrier Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, has extended its Covid-19 global wellness insurance cover until September 30, 2021.

Passengers are covered for up to EUR150,000 of medical costs and up to EUR100 a day of quarantine costs in case of a positive diagnosis for 14 days. The insurance is valid worldwide for 31 days from the first day of travel.

“It’s an added benefit automatically provided to all guests – no exceptions,” said Martin Drew, senior vice president sales and cargo at Etihad.

“As Etihad continues to gradually expand its services to up to 60 destinations this spring, the airline wants to instil confidence to travel and hopes this additional cover will reassure guests Etihad is doing everything it can to keep them safe and protected,” added Drew.

Guests who book tickets with the airline are automatically enrolled into the programme without having to fill any additional forms. The airline first introduced the scheme, part of its Etihad Wellness programme, in September last year.

Etihad recently partnered with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to trial the IATA Travel Pass – a mobile app to help passengers manage their travel and conform with relevant government requirements for Covid-19 testing or vaccine information. IATA Travel Pass will initially be offered to Etihad’s guests on select flights from Abu Dhabi in the first quarter of 2021.

Last month, the airline said that all pilots and cabin crew working had received their  Covid-19 vaccines.
