Dubai school bus accident: 15 students injured

Fifteen school students suffered minor injuries in an accident involving a school bus and a water tanker in Dubai on Monday morning, police said.

Two bus supervisors also suffered injuries, while the tanker driver sustained moderate injuries.

All of them were transferred to Rashid Hospital.

The accident took place on Business Bay Crossing towards Al Rebbat Road, when the school bus belonging to Our Own English High School-Al Warqa’a collided with the water tanker.

In a later statement, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) said 17 patients were treated and all except for one student, the bus driver and supervisor were discharged.

“The patients included 15 students who sustained minor injuries. All were discharged except for one student who required further medical supervision,” the DHA said.

The exact reason for the accident is not yet known.

The school – part of the GEMS group – confirmed the accident.

“Our priority is to ensure that our students are safe and secure. We can confirm that all students had their seat belts on at the time of the accident, which was in slow moving traffic at Business Bay.”

The accident led to severe traffic congestion in the area in the morning, and the police earlier urged motorists to be “extra cautious and take alternative ways”.
