A Saudi national was arrested after he drove a car into the Grand Mosque in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, on Friday night.
Video footage showed the vehicle travelling at high speed, crashing through several barriers, and then coming to a halt, but only after having rammed into one of the doors at around 10.30pm.
Security officials were seen rushing towards the car. They arrested the man who was pulled out from the vehicle, local media reported.
The authorities stated that the man was in “an abnormal condition” and that he has been referred to the Public Prosecution.
The car was reportedly driven at a high speed along a road surrounding the southern square of the Grand mosque, known as Masjid Haramain, said the official spokesman of Makkah region, Sultan Al-Dossari, via Twitter.
No injuries were reported at the site of the incident.
