The announcement comes a few months ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 which will begin in November. Ronaldo, the all-time leading goalscorer in men’s international football, and a five-time Ballon D’or winner has also won 32 trophies over the course of his career and is one of the game’s most prolific players. Talabat will feature Ronaldo in a number of campaigns and on-ground activations across the MENA region starting with its q-commerce offering talabat mart. “We are thrilled to partner with Cristiano Ronaldo in what will be one of the biggest years in history for football fans in the MENA region. Ronaldo continues to push for greatness, and his story and values are an inspiration to many and have had a positive impact globally,” said Tomaso Rodriguez, CEO at talabat. Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile added: “For me, talabat and I share a number of similarities – it is about keeping the best shape and working smarter on and off the pitch, and making sure I’m in the right place and time to have the greatest impact. I know to trust my experience, my intuition and my skill to make sure that I’m bringing the greatest delivery for my team, just as talabat and riders do when they deliver to customers everyday all across the MENA region.” Talabat currently operates in nine countries across the region. Its food delivery business works with over 25,000 brands and almost 50,000 branches, while its q-commerce concept, talabat mart, promises delivery of groceries to customers in Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the UAE in 30 minutes or less. Recently, asset management firm Merex Investment signed a commercial office lease agreement with talabat for the latter to set up its regional and UAE headquarters at City Walk in Dubai. Talabat’s regional HQ will span nearly 150,000 sq ft and will accommodate over 2,000 employees. Merex will convert two existing retail buildings into an office space that will be occupied by talabat. The interior fit-out for the first building situated near La Ville Hotel is set to be handed over by Q3 2022 whereas the second building located opposite to The Square will be handed over by Q1 2023, with employees expected to move in by Q4 2022 and Q3 2023 respectively.
