Although the seeds of the Middle East’s digital economy were sown much earlier, the pandemic accelerated the progress. Migration to the cloud, automation are parts of the digital journey. However, it does not come without challenges. Some of the key concerns are data protection, user privacy, cybersecurity, cloud transition, among others. To answer these concerns, we were joined by an esteemed panel of industry experts at the webinar on ‘Future trends in digital transformation’ hosted by Gulf Business in partnership with Xerox. • Raed Hmoud, Head of Digital Services, Xerox Emirates • Mahmoud Salem Alalawi, procurement and supply expert and researcher • Werno Gevers, Regional Manager at Mimecast Middle East • Ahmed Adly, Senior Director and Cloud Computing Leader, ECEMEA, Oracle “From the day we begin the project, understanding of the business requirements is vital. This helps to map the processes, re-engineer and optimise the workflows and bring the right technology to help in automating these processes,” commented Raed Hmoud. “We need to ensure sustainability with procurement strategy which should be linked with our partners. We should also consider the socio-economic agenda of the organisation as well as maintain transparency. Rather than a normal relationship with vendors, we must have a vendor-centric approach where they support our functions within the organisation,” explained Mahmoud Salem Alalawi. “In order for people to adopt and accept digital transformation, we need not only investment skills, but also re-organisation and change in the old structure, and re-creating some new teams that at as catalysts,” said Ahmed Adly. “Having more holistic approach and building a strong cyber resilience strategy across the organisation’s ecosystem is essential,” said Werno Gevers.
