Home Industry Technology Women in tech: Xiaomi’s Cindy Chang Keep investing in yourself and always keep improving your skillsets no matter the position you’re holding, says Cindy Chang, regional marketing manager, Xiaomi by Gulf Business December 28, 2021 The year 2021 was challenging for everyone, and I was no exception. Travel restrictions, curfews and limited social interactions were the most significant challenges I faced. However, professionally speaking, we enjoyed a successful year at Xiaomi. Despite the global shortage of critical components, Xiaomi solidified its market position by optimising global market resource allocation and reinforcing its channels in accordance with local market conditions. According to Canalys, Xiaomi’s market share of smartphone shipments in the third quarter ranked number one in 11 countries and regions and among the top five in 59 countries and territories globally. In 2022, I expect that people worldwide will focus more on their internal strength and adaptability for external effects. The most important thing we have learned in the past two years is that we cannot interfere with external factors, but we can change ourselves internally. Xiaomi is a global company with great diversity, and I am glad to be a part of this amazing team. I can honestly say that there is no particular obstacle I needed to overcome in Xiaomi, and I feel fortunate in this regard. However, traditionally, almost every industry has male dominance, and the technology industry is one of the prominent ones in this regard. Therefore, a rise in companies that care about diversity, like Xiaomi, will help to break the prejudices on this subject. My advice will be the same for everyone, whether male or female, to progress in the tech industry: Keep investing in yourself and always keep improving your skillsets no matter the position you’re holding. We live in an ever-changing world, and one needs to be agile in every aspect to progress in your professional career.
