Home GCC UAE World Green Economy Summit to focus on energy, finance, food security WGES is organised by DEWA, the World Green Economy Organization and the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy by Zubina Ahmed September 13, 2022 As a result of effective strategies to adapt to climate change and combat its adverse consequences, the Middle East continues to expand the global sustainability agenda. Energy, finance, food security and youth are the four main themes to be discussed in the upcoming eighth World Green Economy Summit (WGES). In relation to finance, it will focus on attracting and encouraging green investments, while discussions on food security will explore various methods to enhance the flexibility and sustainability of the value chain to tackle the challenges related to food security. The summit will also highlight the need to support and empower the youth as they are the driving force for sustainable development and positive growth,” Al Tayer explained. He added that,“This year’s Summit will be a platform to share the UAE’s experience in tackling climate change, as well as the various national strategies and initiatives to achieve net-zero and consolidate the foundations of a low-carbon economy. These strategies include the UAE Net Zero 2050, the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.” The WGES summit will be held on September 28 and 29 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, under the theme ‘Climate Action Leadership through Collaboration: The Roadmap to Net-Zero. It will bring together prominent speakers, experts, thought leaders and decision-makers of international institutions and organisations. It will also feature a over 20 panel discussions and workshops, a ministerial roundtable with about 25 ministers from around the world and discuss the means and methods to prepare for a more sustainable future.
